Artwork Archives — Isabelle Bouchard IB

These archives bring together earlier works that reflect my artistic journey and explorations in visual art. Organized by theme, they reveal the recurring threads of my practice: memory, nature, and emotion.

Each creation belongs to a particular moment, yet together they form an evolving narrative of my artistic development.

Life Drawings

I drew from live models for several years, a fundamental practice that became the foundation of my observational drawing. This essential exercise enriched my artistic approach and allowed me to develop a sensitive and thoughtful understanding of the human figure through form, movement, and presence.

Quebec Wildlife

Animals hold a special place in my artistic practice, alongside the human figure. I create figurative works that often take the form of portraits within abstract, semi-abstract, or minimalist settings. Rather than reproducing reality, these representations seek to reveal the symbolic and universal qualities of living beings.

Drawing from the richness of Quebec’s wildlife, I pay tribute to the essential bond between humanity and nature. Each artwork becomes an emotional experience—a way of conveying the animal’s sensitivity while emphasizing our shared belonging to the living world.

Animals sometimes appear as archetypal figures, carrying universal symbols that connect memory, spirituality, and the collective imagination.

Pyrography

Pyrography holds a distinctive place in my artistic journey. Through lines burned into wood, I create portraits of companion animals, horses, and Quebec wildlife, as well as landscapes inspired by the places around us.

This meticulous and demanding technique allows me to explore texture and depth in a way that differs from painting and drawing.

I also enjoy combining pyrography with acrylic media in mixed-media works, where the warmth of wood meets the vibrancy of colour. These creations unite strength and sensitivity, highlighting the intimate connection between humanity, animals, and nature.

Portraits

Human portraiture occupies a central place in my artistic practice. Emerging from my experience with life drawing, these portraits seek not only to represent a face but also to reveal the emotion, presence, and sensitivity of the individual.

My figurative works often take the form of portraits incorporated into abstract, semi-abstract, or minimalist settings. Each creation becomes a space for dialogue between reality and imagination, where line and colour express the depth of human relationships and the universal symbolism of being.

Pet Portraits

For several years, I created portraits of companion animals, seeking to capture the unique relationship between people and their pets. Often infused with tenderness and sensitivity, these works express the affection and companionship formed through this intimate connection.

Now part of my archives, these creations reflect a period in my practice when companion animals became a central subject—at once familiar, personal, and universal.

Abstract Art

Abstract works hold a distinctive place in my artistic journey. Created through movement, colour, and contrast, they convey emotion rather than representation.

Freed from figuration, these works explore spontaneity and the energy of gesture. Developed alongside my landscapes and portraits, this abstract exploration allowed me to deepen my understanding of composition, rhythm, and the expressive power of form.
